Turtles
Peperomia prostrata, also known as String of Turtles, is a small, slow growing succulent plant native to Brazil that's popular for its unique leaf patterns: 
  • AppearanceThe plant's leaves are round and tiny, with intricate multi-colored patterns that resemble the shell of a turtle. The colors fade with age, eventually becoming bicolored with a darker green and light green. 
  • GrowthA slow-growing plant that can reach a mature size of 30 cm long, and can take 3 to 5 years to fully mature. 
  • LightPrefers bright, indirect light, and should be kept away from direct sunlight. 
  • WaterKeep the soil lightly moist during the growing season, but allow it to dry out slightly in the winter. Avoid overwatering. 
  • HumidityPrefers medium to high humidity. 
  • SoilCan be repotted into a well draining houseplant potting mix. 
  • Fertilizer: can use a liquid fertilizer once a month during the growing season. 
  • ToxicityMildly toxic to pets and humans if ingested. 
  • FlowersRarely flowers indoors, but if it does, it produces tiny cream flowers on long flower spikes. 
  • PestsAphids are the most common pest and can be found on new growth. 
String of Turtles is a good choice for those with limited space, and is often used in fairy gardens, container gardens, and terrariums.
