Light:

Hoyas do best in bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid direct, harsh sunlight, which can scorch their leaves.

Soil:

Use a well-draining potting mix to prevent root rot. Consider adding perlite or orchid bark to improve drainage or use a quality succulent mix.

Watering:

Water when the top inch or two of soil feels dry to the touch. Avoid overwatering, as hoyas are prone to root rot.

Humidity:

Hoyas appreciate higher humidity. If your home is dry, consider using a humidifier or placing the plant on a tray of pebbles and water (ensuring the pot doesn't sit directly in the water).

Fertilizing:

Fertilize monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.

Temperature:

Maintain a temperature between 16-29°C

Pruning:

Hoyas don't require frequent pruning. Remove any dead or damaged leaves and stems. Don't cut off old flower spurs, as hoyas often bloom from the same spots each year.

Pests:

Hoyas can be susceptible to pests like mealybugs and spider mites. Regularly inspect your plant and treat any infestations promptly with an appropriate insecticide. Groventive is efficient.

Repotting:

Repot only when necessary, usually every 2-3 years, when the plant becomes root-bound.

Blooming:

Hoyas produce clusters of fragrant, star-shaped flowers, often with a sugary nectar. To encourage blooming, provide bright light, proper watering, and appropriate fertilization.

Winter Care:

In winter, reduce watering and fertilizing frequency, as the plant will go into a dormant or semi-dormant state.

Non-toxic to cats and dogs:

The SPCA lists the entire Hoya genus as non-toxic.
